Sole Fiesta was founded in 2022 by Jouke van der Krieke from Groningen. Jouke began playing guitar and singing at the age of 14, and songwriting soon followed. He recorded his tracks on a tape recorder and made mixtapes for himself and friends, drawing inspiration from lo-fi artists like Smog and Sparklehorse.
Over the years, Jouke learned to play keyboards, drums, harmonica, and trumpet. This led him to join various bands—such as Sexton Creeps and KIN—and eventually the idiosyncratic Planet Orange in 2019.
Meanwhile, tapes and digital files containing his original material kept piling up. Sole Fiesta was born out of a desire to give these songs a platform. Together with musical friends—versatile drummer Sietze Jan Boer, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Esther de Boer (IOVIVAT, Verhalenkabinet, Hoppah), and veteran bassist/recording engineer Frits Vogt (Planet Orange, Big Ear, De Ziffels, etc.)—the songs come to life both on stage and in the studio.
Sole Fiesta’s music ranges from fragile to danceable or experimental, yet the song itself always remains the focal point. In 2023, the band released their debut album, *A Beautiful Scene*, on vinyl. Following various performances—including a show at the VERA venue with guitar legend Rudy Lentze—and two online releases, Sole Fiesta is currently preparing to launch a new album in early 2027.
