In a cinematic lecture lasting nearly two hours (with an intermission), Jolanda takes you on an adventure through the Arctic world of Greenland. It feels almost as if you are there yourself.
Greenland’s breathtaking landscapes and deafening silence take center stage in this multimedia presentation, for which Jolanda has received various international awards.
Jolanda became the first Dutch person to cross the Greenland ice cap alongside her husband. The 600-kilometer, 40-day ski expedition demanded the utmost not only physically but, above all, proved to be an immense mental challenge.
Yet the question remains: is this the best way to travel? Like someone who—in the words of the Inuit—rushes through the land without truly seeing anything, without seeking a connection with the wildlife or nature. That is why Jolanda returns. She goes in search of *qarrtsiluni*—the silence of nature that, according to the Inuit, leads to a much deeper sense of connection.
Subsequent expeditions take Jolanda on skis through the dark polar night, and by kayak through fjords in the northeast and along the inhospitable coasts of the southwest. Camping amidst lurking polar bears and battered by storms and a tsunami, the line between enjoyment and mortal danger often proves razor-thin.
During the ultimate journey—driving her own team of dogs on a Greenlandic sled across the sea ice near Ittoqqortoormiit in the northeast—fighting dogs and persistent temperatures of minus 35 degrees make life far from easy.
